Frantz goes 3-0 in 3-0 day

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Nathaniel Frantz went 3-0 to lead McDaniel to a 3-0 day at its own Green Terror Duals in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.

The Green Terror (3-0) opened the day with a 37-13 victory over Scranton before topping UMBC, 46-4. Later in the day, McDaniel came back to edge Penn State-Mont Alto 29-27 to complete an undefeated start to the dual-meet season.

Jake Pooton (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) joined Frantz with three wins on the day, including joining Frantz with a pair of forfeit wins.

In the opener against the Royals (3-7), Frantz opened with an 8-4 win before Ryan O'Boyle (North Reading, Mass./Central Catholic) turned in a pin in just 1:05 to give the team a 9-0 lead in the match.

James Kelly trimmed the deficit to 9-3 with a 10-5 win at 141 before Trey Mitchell (Lewes, Del./Caesar Rodney) recorded a pin early in the third period to stretch the lead to 15-3.

Ian Evans and Logan Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) traded major decision wins by 10-2 and 14-2 scores, respectively, before Shawn Flesche made it a 19-13 match with a 1-minute, 13-second fall at 174.

Pooton, Nick Cross (Centreville, Md./Queen Annes County) and Taylor Avino (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) all took forfeits to close out the win, however.

Against the Retrievers, Frantz opened with a forfeit before O'Boyle notched his second pin of the day, recording the fall in 3:30 for a 12-0 lead.

Anthoney Savage pushed the lead to 15-0 with a 10-3 win at 141 before Mitchell won by forfeit.

A 9-0 Luke Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) win and 17-10 Logan Yox victory pushed the advantage to 28-0.

A Nick Calomeris 14-4 win at 174 gave UMBC its only points of the day.

Pooton, Cross and Avino all closed out the day with first-period pins. Pooton notched the fall in 54 seconds before Cross won in 2:35 and Avino needed just 19 seconds for the pin.

Forfeit wins by Frantz and Ben Montanye (Glyndon, Md./Franklin) gave McDaniel a 12-0 lead over the Lions before Savage recorded a 16-0 technical fall midway through the second period to push the advantage to 17-0.

Tyler Warner got Penn State-Mont Alto on the board with a 2-minute, 22-second pin before Colton Smith (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) responded with a 21-second fall at 157.

Elijah Harris held on to notch a 14-13 win at 165 before Clay Kocsis recorded a 4-minute, 12-second pin at 174 to make it a 23-15 match.

Pooton took the forfeit at 184 to secure the win.
