Zeps nets 17 in CC-opening win

LANCASTER, Pa. – McDaniel raced out to a 10-0 lead en route to an 81-39 victory over Franklin & Marshall in the Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball opener for both teams on Wednesday.

Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) led four players in double figures for the Green Terror (3-0, 1-0 CC), netting 17 points. Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's), the reigning CC Player of the Week, added 14 while Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) chipped in 11 and 10, respectively.

Caroline Studnicky paced the Diplomats (0-3, 0-1 CC) with eight points.

Keyed by consecutive triples from Nichols, McDaniel jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the game's first 3:02.

After Anajha Burnett scored Franklin & Marshall's first bucket with 16:31 on the clock, five straight points from Perez sparked another 9-0 burst that stretched the advantage to 19-2 nearly four minutes later.

Two Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) free throws with 9:11 to play stretched the lead to 20 for the first time at 25-4.

The Green Terror took a 41-16 lead into the locker room before Kara Bacile hit a jumper 20 seconds into the second half to trim the margin to 23.

A Perez triple made it a 30-point lead at 54-24 with 14:08 showing.

The Diplomats closed to within 56-32 on a Brown layup with 12:17 to play before McDaniel reeled off 17 of the game's next 19 points to open up a 73-34 lead with 5:38 remaining.

Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) added five assists while Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) nabbed four steals to go with three assists. Wingerd led the way on the glass with eight boards while Zeps had seven rebounds and four steals.

Smith and Lauren Ballenger (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) dished out four helpers each.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against York (Pa.) on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
