Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa. – McDaniel dropped a pair of matches to finish fourth at the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest tournament hosted by Carnegie Mellon in volleyball action on Saturday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the Green Terror (19-13) with 22 kills and 20 digs on the day, recording a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs in the semifinal against Geneva before notching 11 kills against Bethany (W.V.) in the consolation match.
In the semifinals against the Golden Tornadoes (27-10), McDaniel took the opening set 25-19 behind an 8-1 run that turned a 12-all score into a 20-13 lead.
In the second set, McDaniel rallied to close a 21-15 deficit to 22-21. Back-to-back kills from Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) gave the Green Terror a 25-24 lead before Rachel Netherland evened the match.
Back-to-back Erin Smith kills capped a 28-26 win.
Tied at 7-all in the third set, the Tornadoes exploded to take a 2-1 lead in the match by a 25-10 count that included eight straight points to make it a 19-8 score.
Trailing 21-15 in the fourth set, Geneva rallied to take a 22-21 lead before a Martin kill evened the set. The Tornadoes, however, reeled off the final three points to advance to the championship match.
In the consolation match, the Bison (27-14) took third place with a straight-set win. Bethany took the opening set 25-20 before winning 25-19 and 25-13 to close out the day.
Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) led the way defensively in both matches, recording 18 in the semifinals and 13 against Bethany.
