Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first set en route to a 3-1 victory over Catholic in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest volleyball tournament on Wednesday.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) helped the sixth-seeded Green Terror (19-11) snap a six-match losing streak to end the regular season, recording her fifth double-double of the season with 12 kills and team-high 17 digs. She also added three total blocks to give her team a spot in Saturday's semifinals at Carnegie Mellon. McDaniel will face No. 2 Geneva at a time that will be determined on Thursday.
Kathryn Herrington led the Cardinals (22-14) with nine kills while Michelle Bouchard steadied the defense with 11 digs.
Kills by four different Green Terror players keyed a 6-0 start to the match. A Michelle Seals ace closed the deficit to 15-11 the hosts tallied 10 of the match's final 16 points to take the opening set, 25-17.
Neither team was able to open up a lead of greater than two points in the second set before Catholic was able to take advantage of back-to-back McDaniel miscues to score the final two points of a 25-23 win.
A pair of kills from Martin keyed a 7-1 start to the third set. The Cardinals closed to within 9-7 before the Green Terror reeled off a 6-2 burst to stretch the lead to 15-8 en route to a 25-15 victory.
In the fourth set, it was Catholic opening up an early lead at 4-1 before a Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) ace capped a 4-0 counter to put her team in front, 5-4.
After an Amy O'Connor kill momentarily knotted the set at 5-all, a Martin kill and back-to-back error made it 8-5 before a Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) ace forced a Cardinal timeout at 9-5.
A service error made it 14-11 before a Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) kill sparked an 8-0 run that made it a 22-11 score.
Martin wrapped up the match with a kill for the 25-14 win.
Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) led the attack with 13 kills while adding three aces and three blocks. Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) added eight kills and 14 digs to go with two aces while Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) established a career best with 10 kills to go with three blocks.
Corral added seven kills and six blocks while Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) chipped in 31 assists and eight digs.
