WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will host Catholic for the first round of the 2014 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest volleyball tournament on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
The Green Terror (18-11) earned the No. 6 seed but will host the third-seeded Cardinals (22-13) in the quarterfinals of the eight-team tournament. McDaniel is making its second straight ECAC appearance.
The winner of Wednesday's match will meet the winner of the matchup between No. 2 Geneva (24-10) and No. 7 Penn State-Altoona (16-13) in one of Saturday's semifinals. The other semifinal will pit the winners of No. 4 Bethany (25-13) and No. 5 Penn State-Behrend (19-12) against top seed and host Carnegie Mellon (22-11). Match times are yet to be determined. The two winners will meet the championship while the other teams will meet in the third-place match following the semifinal action on Saturday.
Junior Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led McDaniel during the regular season with 281 kills while ranking second on the squad with 229 digs.
Sophomore Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) ranked second on the squad with 223 kills and 99 total blocks. She also registered a team-high 40 service aces.
Sophomore Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) and junior Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) split primary setting duties, contributing 494 and 376 assists, respectively. Moyer added 161 digs and 31 aces while Kellen chipped in 171 digs.
Sophomore Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) paced the squad with 100 total blocks, becoming the first Green Terror player to reach the century mark since 2006.
Sophomore Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) steadied the defense with 388 digs. She also added 28 aces during the regular season.
