Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Johns Hopkins pulled away late in the final two sets to rally for a 3-2 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) led a 75-dig effort from the Green Terror (18-10, 3-6 CC) with a team-best 15 digs. Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) added 13 digs while Haley Duff (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) chipped in 12. Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) rounded out a quartet in double digits with 10.
Anne Cohen recorded 23 digs of her own to lead the Blue Jays (16-10, 7-2 CC), who had 78 as a team and secured a CC playoff berth with the victory.
Trailing 2-1 in the match with the fourth set tied at 13-all, Liz Wuerstle recorded two of her three service aces as part of four straight points to take a 17-13 lead.
Back-to-back Ali Cox kills extended the advantage to 20-14 en route to a 25-19 win that forced a fifth set.
The two teams traded points through the first 22 of the decided set before Stephanie Yokoyama notched her fourth ace of the night to cap a 4-0 finish to the match for a 15-11 win.
Clinging to a 14-12 lead in the first set, McDaniel notched six of the next eight points to take a 20-14 lead en route to a 25-20 victory.
Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set behind one of Erica Johnston's three aces.
The Green Terror closed to within 19-17 before the Blue Jays were able to notch six of the final eight points for a 25-19 win.
The two teams batted in a back-and-forth third set that featured 44 combined digs. Neither team led by more than two points the entire way.
A diving dig by Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) kept a rally alive that led to a block from Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) to knot the set at 23-all.
Kellen then saved a ball at the net with a set that Rath put down for a 24-23 lead and Martin finished off the set with a knockdown for the 25-23 win.
Madaline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) led the McDaniel attack with 13 kills. She also added a pair of service aces.
Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) added nine kills and eight digs.
Moyer added 21 assists to her 10 digs while Kellen had 12 helpers and eight digs.
McDaniel concludes the regular season at home against Washington (Md.). Match time is 1 p.m.
