Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus built a 2-0 lead en route to a 3-2 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season for the Green Terror (7-7-1, 1-5-1 CC) and added an assist.
Ryan Butler recorded a hat trick for the Bears (6-6-3, 3-3-1 CC), who won a key game in the battle for the final two playoff spots with a week to play in the regular season.
Butler knocked in a deflection off a McDaniel defender for a 1-0 lead just 6:29 into the game.
Butler then put home a free kick in the 32nd minute for a 2-0 advantage.
Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) headed a ball in off a corner that McCracken played ahead to Sean Foley (Aberdeen, Md./The Tome School), who was able to finish to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 57th minute.
Butler completed his hat trick off a feed from Wyatt Powell nearly 10 minutes.
McCracken set the final margin with just 11 seconds left to give freshman goalkeeper Nick Over (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) his first collegiate assist.
Over finished with three saves in net.
Ursinus finished with a 16-8 advantage in shots and 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
