Rose notches 17 kills, seven blocks

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Gettysburg scored four straight points midway through the fifth set en route to a 15-12 win and 3-2 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.

Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) led the Green Terror (18-9, 3-5 CC) with season highs of 17 kills and seven block assists. Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) also posted a new season best, leading four players in double-digit digs with 24.

Laura Bergin paced the Bullets (18-8, 5-2 CC) with 21 kills in securing a key conference victory in the hunt for the final two playoff spots with three matches to play.

In the fifth set, the two traded points through 5-all before a Maddie Weikert kill keyed a 4-0 burst that gave Gettysburg an 8-5 lead as the two teams traded sides.

Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) knocked down a kill to close the deficit to 8-6 before back-to-back Bullet points stretched the lead to 10-6.

A block from Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) and Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) block closed the deficit to 10-8.

The teams traded points the rest of the way before Joosje Grevers knocked a kill off the McDaniel block attempt for the game-winner.

One of Rose's two aces keyed a 5-0 run in the opening set that broke a 7-all tie and gave the hosts a 12-7 advantage en route to a 25-15 victory.

Gettysburg opened up a lead as large as eight points in the second set before five Rose kills keyed an 11-2 run that drew McDaniel even at 22-all.

A Bergin kill and Courtney Morrow ace made it set point for the Bullets before Corral and Bergin traded kills for a 25-23 Gettysburg win.

The Bullets once again built an 18-11 lead in the third set before holding on to take a 2-1 lead in the match, 25-21.

The Green Terror raced out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set en route to a 25-16 victory to force the deciding set.

Folaron added 14 kills while Corral had nine. Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) chipped in 28 assists while Colette Kellen (Olney, Md./Covenant Life) added 21 helpers.

Weger and Moyer had three aces each.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
