Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – McDaniel rebounded for a 3-1 victory over Penn State-Berks after dropping a 3-1 Centennial Conference (CC) match to Swarthmore in volleyball action on Saturday.
Lexi Corral (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) led the Green Terror (18-5, 3-3 CC) with 22 kills over the two matches, including her first double-digit effort with 13 against the Lions (13-7) in the nightcap win.
The Garnet (14-4, 6-0 CC), led by Sarah Wallace's 25 kills, topped McDaniel 25-14 and 25-21 in the first two sets before the Green Terror forced a fourth set with a 25-20 win. Swarthmore got a pair of kills to break a 25-all deadlock and take the match, 27-25.
Penn State-Berks rallied to take the opening set 26-24 before the Green Terror won three straight sets for the victory. McDaniel took the second and third sets by identical 25-18 scores before capping the victory with a 25-17 win.
Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) led the way against Swarthmore, notching 16 kills and 18 digs. Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) added eigth kills and five total blocks while Corral and Reagan Folaron (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) chipped in seven kills each. Corral recorded her seven knockdowns without and error and added three blocks.
Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) led the defense with 20 digs.
In the fourth set, McDaniel jumped out to a 7-1 lead behind both of Folaron's aces. The Green Terror took a 10-2 lead to force a Swarthmore timeout before the hosts reeled off 10 of the next 11 points to take a 12-11 lead.
Neither team was able to open up a lead of more than four the rest of the way before Alice Liu and Bridget Scott each recorded kills for the 26th and 27th points and wrap up the match.
Against Penn State-Berks, Corral had just one error against her 15 kills to lead a trio of players with double-digit kills. Rose added 11 kills while Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Shrewsbury) chipped in 11.
Weger and Martin led the defense with 19 and 15 digs, respectively. Corral and Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) each added five total blocks.
Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) chipped in 28 assists and eight digs.
The Green Terror returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
