Box Score 2 COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – McDaniel trailed 2-1 before winning
the fourth set and a close fifth set to notch its second straight
Centennial Conference (CC)
victory and catapult its way to a 2-0 day in a trimatch at Ursinus
on Saturday.
Genna
Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) recorded 23 digs as part
of the 3-2 win over the Bears (7-8, 0-4 CC) before adding another
15 to lead the Green Terror (10-3, 2-1 CC) to a 3-0 victory over
Penn State-Harrisburg.
McDaniel jumped out to a big lead in the first set en route to a
25-15 victory before Ursinus took the next two sets. The Bears
captured a close second set 25-23 before taking a 2-1 lead in the
match, 25-16. The Green Terror forced the deciding set with a 25-19
win in Set No. 4 before notching its second two-point, fifth-set
victory in as many CC wins this season, 15-13.
McDaniel ran its winning streak to seven matches in a row with a
victory over the Lions (4-12), taking the match in straight sets,
25-11, 25-18, 25-19.
Against the Bears, Colette
Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) and Kloe Martin
(Littleton, Colo./Heritage) joined Weger in double-digit digs with
13 and 11 respectively. McDaniel had 62 digs as a team in the
match.
Martin rounded out her sixth double-double of the season with 17
kills. She also had three blocks.
Kellen added 22 assists and five aces.
Madeline Rose
(Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) and Lexi Corral
(Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) chipped in eight and seven kills,
respectively, while Maddie Moyer
(Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) contributed 15 digs to the attack. Rose
added four blocks.
Kara Thiele led Ursinus with 25 kills while Leah Masiello added
20 digs.
Martin led the attack against Penn State-Harrisburg, notching 11
kills to go with nine digs. Rose added eight kills while Moyer had
10 assists. Kellen added 21 assists, four digs and three kills.
For the Green Terror, the 10-3 start is the program's best start
to a season since the 1994 CC championship squad won 14 of its
first 16 matches.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Dickinson on
Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
