Martin helps McDaniel run winning streak to five

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel trailed 24-17 before rallying for a 27-25 set-three win to sweep Hood 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday.

Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage), the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, had four of her match-high 16 kills during the late rally to secure the sweep for the Green Terror (8-5) – its fourth during the current five-match winning streak.

Amy Hagerdon led the Blazers (4-8) with eight kills and six digs. Kathryn Jones added 20 assists and 10 digs.

Tied at 10-all in the third set, Hood reeled off four straight points en route to an Ashley Park-Brouse kill that put the visitors on set point, up 24-17 and trying to force a fourth set.

A service error gave the ball back to McDaniel, trailing by six.

Back-to-back Hood attack errors closed the gap to 24-20 before Martin found the gym floor to force a Blazer timeout.

Two more Martin kills just inside the lines closed the deficit to 24-23 before Madeline Rose (Soddy Daisy, Tenn./Baylor High) and Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) combined to block an attack back into the open floor and tie the set at 24-all.

After another Hood timeout, Martin put down Kellen's 22nd assist of the night to give the hosts match point.

A service error and Blazer attacking error made it a 26-25 match before Rose knocked down the team's 44th kill of the night for the victory.

Back-to-back kills from Rose and Kellen keyed an 8-4 start to the match for McDaniel.

The Green Terror extended the advantage to 13-6 before the Blazers closed to within 13-9. Four straight Hood errors stretched the lead out to 17-9 en route to a 25-16 set-one win.

Back-to-back Park-Brouse aces keyed a 5-1 start to the second set for the Blazers.

Trailing 14-10, a service error – one of 23 combined by the two teams – closed the deficit to 14-11, starting a 7-1 rally that put the hosts in front, 17-15.

Two kills from Caroline Savin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) around a Martin kill stretched the lead to 22-17 en route to a 25-21 victory.

Rose finished with nine kills. Genna Weger (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susuqehannock) steadied the defense with 13 digs. Maddie Moyer (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) added 16 assists and seven digs, including serving the Green Terror back into the third set with eight straight points.

McDaniel returns to action at Ursinus in a trimatch with Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday. The first match begins at 11 a.m.
