Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Five days early, McDaniel was held to just 52 points for 40 minutes. On Saturday, the squad had reached that number by halftime en route to an offensive outburst and 97-60 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball victory at Ursinus.

Tim Stewart (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) netted 22 points to lead the Green Terror (4-2, 2-2 CC), who had four of its five starters reach double figures. Wesley Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added 16 of his career-high 18 points in the first half. Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Pa./Annapolis Area Christian) and Duane Echols (Jessup, Md./Hammond) added 14 and 10 points, respectively, for a McDaniel squad that had its most offensive outing in CC play since a 98-94 victory over Johns Hopkins on Jan. 23, 1996, shooting 63.5 percent in the process that included hitting at a 71.4-percent (20-for-28) clip in the decisive first half.

Trevor Norton led the Bears (1-6, 0-4 CC) with 15 points while Malik Draper added 10.

Draper staked the hosts to a 3-0 lead 11 seconds into the game before Evan Pupelis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) hit a layup at the other end to spark a 10-2 run. Seven points from Brooks helped extend the lead to 15-5 with 14:20 remaining in the first half.

Still on top 19-10, Brooks jut a jumper with 11:50 showing to spark another 11-3 burst that pushed the lead to 19 just 3:49 later.

Ursinus closed to only within 14 on a Draper tip-in with 4:26 on the clock before the Green Terror pushed the lead out to 52-27 at the intermission.

A single Perry free throw made it a 30-point game for the first time at 71-41 with 11:24 to play and the Bears got no closer than 26 the rest of the way.

In addition to its 33-for-52 showing from the floor, McDaniel also went 26-for-34 from the free-throw line. Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) added eight points and four assists.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Lebanon Valley on Sunday, Dec. 15. Game time is 3 p.m.
