Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – York (Pa.) used an early 14-0 run to establish its early defensive presence en route to a 63-45 non-conference women's basketball victory over McDaniel on Monday.

Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) led the Green Terror (7-10) with 11 points. Stephanie Fish (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) added six points, six rebounds and two steals off the bench.

Kristen Haley recorded 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Spartans (14-4), who entered the game in the top 20 in Division III in scoring defense at 49.1 points per game.

After Perez staked the Green Terror to a 2-0 lead 1:04 into the game, Kelsey Murphy responded immediately with a layup at the other end.

Neither team scored again until Kailee Knight hit the backend of two free throws with 15:26 to play and Aja Wallpher snapped the drought from the floor 42 seconds later.

Baskets from four other Spartans extended the lead to 14-2 at the 11:04 mark before an Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) layup snapped McDaniel's 8-minute, 8-second scoring drought.

A Brittney Hicks 3-pointer with 4:38 to play in the opening half stretched the lead to 20 for the first time at 31-11 en route to a 36-13 halftime edge.

Baskets from Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) and Codi McMaster (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) in the first two minutes of the second half closed the deficit to 19 but the Spartans responded with the next five points to take a 41-17 lead with 17:14 remaining.

York stretched the lead to as many as 30 on a Murphy 3-pointer with 3:45 to play before a Fish 3-point play a minute later sparked a 12-0 finish to the contest. Fish had all six of her points during that stretch.

Lindsey Nichols (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) and Angela Sacco (Linwood, N.J./Holy Spirit) each added a 3-pointer during the final run.

Rybak finished with eight points while Brittney Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) chipped in six rebounds and four assists.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
