McShea hits .393

WESTMINSTER, Md. – In a tightly contested third set, Marymount prevailed with a 27-25 victory to secure a 3-0 non-conference volleyball victory over McDaniel on Wednesday.

Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the Green Terror (4-10) with a double-double. She recorded 14 kills with just three errors on 28 attack attempts to hit .393 in the match. She also added 11 digs.

Jenn Forbes led a balanced attack for the Saints (14-4) with nine kills while Emily Shultis added eight. Morgan McAlpin and Erin Allison tallied seven each.

In the first set, Marymount opened up a 4-0 lead before McDaniel rallied with eight of the next 12 points to knot the set at 8-all. A Melissa Weldon (Broomall, Pa./County Day School of the Sacred Heart) kill gave the Green Terror its first lead, 9-8.

The Saints led by as many as three before recording the last three points for a 25-20 set win.

After the two teams traded points early in the second set, back-to-back kills from Forbes pushed the Marymount advantage to 5-2 en route to a 25-17 victory.

The Green Terror jumped out to a 5-2 lead in Set No. 3 before the Saints tallied seven of the next nine points to take a 9-7 lead.

A Morgan McAlpin kill stretched the lead to as many as five at 16-11 before three Weldon aces capped a 7-2 run that knotted the score at 18-all.

Five of the set's 13 ties and five of the seven lead changes occurred down the stretch before two McAlpin kills and a McCormick knockdown finished off the match.

Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) finished with eight kills and nine digs while Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) added 23 assists and seven digs.

Julia Wainwright (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) and Olivia Kunc (Chesterbook, Pa./Conestoga) finished with eight and seven digs, respectively.

The Green Terror returns to action at Ursinus and Cheyney on Saturday. McDaniel takes on the Bears at 1 p.m. before travelling to Cheyney for a 6 p.m. match.
