McShea records 11 kills

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall took three close sets to defeat McDaniel 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.

Annie McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) led the Green Terror (4-8, 0-2 CC) on attack with 11 kills while Kloe Martin (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) steadied the defense with 13 digs.

Candice Tussing registered 11 kills to pace the Diplomats (6-7, 1-0 CC), who took the opening set 25-22 before edging McDaniel in a tight second set, 26-24. They completed the sweep with a 25-20 win.

In a first set that featured nine ties and four lead changes, Tussing broke a 22-all deadlock with a kill. An attacking error and another Tussing kill settled the set.

Three straight Martin kills keyed a 11-0 run that helped the Green Terror open up a 21-12 lead in the second set.

Two of Caitlin Krutsick's four aces ignited a 5-0 run that closed the deficit to 22-18.

A Colette Kellen (Derwood, Md./Covenant Life) gave McDaniel a 24-20 advantage but a serving error, Hubbard ace and two kills each from Kerry Rom and Katie Foreman gave Franklin & Marshall the 26-24 win.

The third set featured six ties and a pair of lead changes early before Hubbard broke a 10-all deadlock with an ace en route to the five-point victory.

Kellen finished with 21 assists while Martin had seven kills. McShea added four aces and eight digs.

The Green Terror returns to action at Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m.
