Franklin nets 13 in finale

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel built a 10-point first half lead and held on for a 52-50 Centennial Conference (CC) victory over Gettysburg in the season finale for both teams on Saturday.

Senior Kelsey Franklin (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) netted 13 points in her final game for the Green Terror (11-14, 8-12 CC) while classmate Meg Biggart (Darien, Conn./Darien) chipped in a team-high seven rebounds – a total which matches her career high. Junior Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) led the way with a game-high 17 points.

Sara Kinsley paced the Bullets (12-13, 10-10 CC) with a double-double, scoring 16 points to go with 14 rebounds.

After three ties and three lead changes in the first six minute, Allie Eader (Ijamsville, Md./Linganore) hit a jumper with 13:13 to play that knotted the game at 9-all and sparked a 10-0 run over the next 3:46.

Rybak netted five straight points to key the stretch.

After a single Stephanie Fish (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) free throws stretched the advantage to 17-9 with 9:26 showing, Caroline Murphy responded with a jumper and Katie Earley hit a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to three just over a minute later.

However, seven straight points from Rybak extended the lead to double digits for the first time with 6:28 to play.

Franklin reestablished the 10-point lead at 29-19 with 2:12 to play before two Taylor Faltau free throws and a Kinsley layup trimmed the deficit to six with 1:23 remaining.

Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) drove and beat the first-half buzzer with a layup to give McDaniel a 31-23 edge at the intermission.

Trailing 40-31 on a Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) jumper, Kinsley responded with a layup to spark an 8-0 burst that closed the deficit to 40-38 with 9:41 to play and force a Green Terror timeout.

Out of the stoppage, Rybak canned a triple before Franklin hit two free throws to reestablish the seven-point edge with 8:03 remaining.

A Kinsley layup and Franklin 3-pointer extended McDaniel's lead to 48-40 with 5:33 to play.

Two Perez free throws with 24.3 seconds to play gave the Green Terror a 52-46 advantage before Cori Younghans connected on the break to trim the deficit back to four with 16.2 seconds on the clock.

A jump ball and two missed free throws kept it a two point game before Kinsley had a putback in the final second to set the final margin.

Perez finished with eight points, snapping her streak of games in double figures at 21 games. However, with a 14.4-point-per-game scoring average she did break Kathi Synder's 1995-96 freshman record of 14.3 points per game.

Wingerd finished with six points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and a steal while Eader contributed four rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots to her two points.
