Perez, Wingerd score 11 each

Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A 22-0 run during a 7-minute stretch in the first half turned a three-point deficit into a 14-point lead and propelled Muhlenberg to a 66-54 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) paced the Green Terror (10-14, 7-12 CC) with 11 points each. Wingerd added five rebounds and five assists.

Alexandra Chili led four players in double figures for the Mules (18-5, 13-5 CC) with 18 points. She rounded out a double-double with 15 rebounds as part of a 53-33 advantage on the glass.

Trailing 15-12 after back-to-back 3-pointers from Kelsey Franklin (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and Meg Biggart (Darien, Conn./Darien) gave McDaniel its only lead at 15-12 with 10:01 to play, Abby Stenger responded 10 seconds later with a trey of her own – one of seven first-half 3-pointers by Muhlenberg – to ignite the game-changing run.

Stenger's triple was the first of four in a row by four different Mules.

A Wingerd jumper with 2:38 to play in the opening half snapped a stretch of 7 minutes, 33 seconds without a point for the Green Terror, sparking a 10-2 run that closed the deficit to 36-25 at the break.

Wingerd tallied five points during the span.

Chili stretched the lead back to 13 early in the second half before layups from Perez and Wingerd trimmed the deficit to single digits for the first time since 7:07 left in the first half.

Five straight points from Allie Eader (Ijamsville, Md./Linganore) closed the deficit to 40-34 before Katy Mitton pushed the lead back to eight with 14:23 on the clock.

Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) countered with a 3-pointer to make it a five-point game but two Hannah Rush free throws and a Clawson jumper stretched the advantage back to 49-37 with 12:11 remaining.

Franklin layups twice closed the margin to 10 but that's as close as the Green Terror could get down the stretch.

Franklin finished with nine points and five rebounds.

McDaniel concludes the season at home against Gettysburg on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
