Rudd tallies 15 to earn all-tournament nod

Box Score

MEADVILLE, Pa. – McDaniel outscored Pitt-Titusville 28-10 over the final 9:09 of the first half to take a 41-25 lead into the break and carried that momentum to a 92-53 victory in the consolation game of 2012 Greg Richards Memorial Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Allegheny in men's basketball action on Saturday.

Tyler Rudd (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) led the Green Terror (1-1) with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Phillip Perry (Crownsville, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) and Jimmy Cranwell (Brick, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) also reached double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively – both career highs. Perry also pulled down and team- and career-best eight boards.

Mark Houston paced the Panthers (0-2) with game highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Trailing 15-13 on a Tevin Jones layup with 9:52 to play in the opening half, Perry converted a layup 43 seconds later to tie the game before Nic Martin (Hagerstown, Md./St. Maria Goretti) hit two free throws to give McDaniel the lead for good with 8:57 showing.

A Martin fast-break layup and Nick Chia (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia/Brisbane State) jumper stretched the lead to six just 1:06 later.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Wesley Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) gave the Green Terror its first double-digit lead at 29-17 with 4:26 remaining in the first half.

Layups from Cranwell and Duane Echols (Jessup, Md./Hammond) around a single Houston free throw stretched the lead to as many as 19 before Hiree Peoples hit a triple with two seconds left to make it a 41-25 game at the break.

Already on top 57-35 with 12:36 to play, Rudd converted in transition to spark a 15-0 run that stretched the lead to 72-35 in a span of just 3 minutes, 34 seconds.

The lead fluctuated between 33 and 39 points the rest of the way.

Pitt-Titusville jumped out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by Houston and Peoples before Cranwell broke up the shutout 3:35 into the contest.

Rudd gave McDaniel its first lead at 10-9 with a 3-pointer at the 13:21 mark and Perry converted on the break to stretch that advantage to three.

The 92 points for the Green Terror was the most scored in a game since registering 100 against Penn State-York on Nov. 21, 2008.

Josh Smith (Cambridge, Mass./Chapel Hill-Channcy Hall) recorded a career-high six assists.
