Wingerd records six and six

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – McDaniel scored the game's first 23 points en route to a 56-34 Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball victory over Bryn Mawr on Saturday.

Steph Perez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) made it 19-for-19 in double figures with 10 points to pace the Green Terror (8-11, 5-10 CC), who halted its eight-game losing streak with the win.

Jackie Handy led the Owls (0-15, 0-12 CC) with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Nicolette Parmese adding nine points and 15 rebounds.

Emma Wingerd (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) hit jumpers around a pair of Perez baskets to stake McDaniel to an 8-0 lead in the game's first 5:15 before a Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) jumper extended the lead to 10 just over a minute later.

Four straight points from Perez and a Lauren Ballenger (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) three-point play pushed the lead to 16-0 at the 12:18 mark before a Winger fast-break jumper stretched the lead to 19-0 just five seconds later.

Baskets from Katherine Restrepo (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) and Nikki Ostrow (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) capped the opening run, which more than accounted for the difference in the final score, with 10:51 to play in the opening half.

A Danielle Preziuso 3-pointer broke up the shutout 42 seconds later before Stephanie Fish (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) responded with a layup before Parmese and Aislinn Toohey scored back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to fewer than 20 but the Green Terror responded with nine of the game's next 10 points to stretch the lead to 34-7 with 4:43 remaining.

A Parmese layup capped a 7-2 burst to make a 36-14 game before Karen Wearden (Denton, Md./St. Thomas More [Del.]) pushed the lead back to 24 at the break.

Two Handy free throws capped a 13-8 stretch to open the second half and once again make it a 19-point deficit with 13:04 to play but Nikki Piper (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) bookended a 10-1 counter that stretched the lead to its largest of the game with 6:32 to play.

Wingerd finished with six points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots while Restrepo added six points. Rybak finished with seven points, three assists and three steals.

McDaniel returns to action at home against Dickinson on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
