Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington (Md.) got 38 points from its bench to key an 81-63 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Cullen Murray-Kemp (Trappe, Md./Easton) led three starters in double figures with 20 points for the Green Terror (3-5, 1-3 CC), who received 11 points from Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) and 10 from Andrew Merlo (Rehoboth, Del./Cape Henlopen).

Sal Schittino led the Shoremen (5-3, 3-2 CC) with 15 points off the bench. Adam Naymick also added 14 points off the bench Chris Olsen and Kevin Breslin rounded out a quartet of double-digit scorers with 14 and 13, respectively.

After a first 8 minutes, 15 seconds that featured five ties and lead changes, Washington put together a 9-0 run that gave the hosts the lead for good.

Trailing 12-8 on a James Cranwell (Brick, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven Regional) layup with 13:15 on the clock, Naymick converted a pair of layups to tie the game a minute later.

Charlie McShane gave the Shoremen the lead for good nearly 30 seconds later and Schittino hit a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to five.

Sarris-Grau and Schittino traded triples and Murray-Kemp hit a jumper to make it a 20-17 game with 9:10 on the clock but back-to-back baskets from Olsen stretched the lead to eight with 7:06 remaining.

Schittino's third trey pushed the lead to double digits for the first time with 6:26 to play in the first half and two Naymick free throws nearly three minutes later ballooned the advantage to 35-21 en route to a 40-26 lead at the break.

McDaniel closed the gap to 49-37 with 14:56 showing in the second half before three Schittino free throws started a 9-0 burst that stretched the lead to 21 just 1:54 later.

A single Cranwell free throw with 4:22 on the clock made it a 67-51 game but that was as close as the visitors could get.

Woody Butler (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) led the Green Terror on the glass with five rebounds to go with his six points.

McDaniel returns to action at Elizabethtown on Sunday, Dec. 18. Game time is 3 p.m.
