BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins scored an insurance goal in the 86th minute that proved to be necessary to defeat McDaniel 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Tuesday.

Michael McClain (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) scored for the Green Terror (4-10-2, 1-7 CC) to make it a one-goal game with 4:01 to play.

Matt Carey provided the difference for the Blue Jays (9-4-3, 6-1-1 CC), who remained in first place in the conference standings with one game to play.

Corey Adams played a long ball over the defense to Nick White, who chipped it over the goalkeeper's head for a 1-0 lead at the 9:30 mark.

That's where the score remained until Kotaro Mitsuhashi found Carey, who fired home a hard shot from the top of the box at the 85:07 mark.

Just 52 seconds later, Edgar Escobar (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) played a long ball into the box that McClain headed home from short range to make it 2-1.

Another 46 seconds later, Max Rutherford (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) had a chance to even the game with a penalty kick but Nick Cerrone came up with a save to preserve the victory.

Cerrone finished with three saves in addition to his stop on the PK.

Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made four saves for McDaniel.

The Blue Jays finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots.

The Green Terror concludes the season at home against Gettysburg on Saturday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
