Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Haverford let an early 1-0 advantage slip away but scored halfway through the first overtime to defeat McDaniel 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
Matthew Gillen (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored for the Green Terror (4-9-2, 1-6 CC), tying the game in the 70th minute.
Matt Wetherell tallied the game-winner for the Fords (7-6-1, 3-4 CC), scoring when David Robinson's pass bounced off a defender. Wetherell collected the loose ball in the middle of a host of players right in front of the goal, throwing his head through the ball for the game-winner 4:50 into overtime.
Alejandro Rettig y Martinez headed in a cross from Dan Garfing for a 1-0 lead at the 16:37 mark.
Gillen finished a pass from Nathan Greenwood (Bethesda, Md./Blue Ridge) at the 69:30 to tie the game and eventually force the extra session.
Haverford finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots, including 15-4 after halftime.
Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made 10 saves for the Green Terror while Nick Kahn had three stops for the Fords.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
