Box Score Green Terror nets season-high 89 points in victory
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Powered by a career-high 29-point
performance from senior Whitney Snoops
(Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding), McDaniel eclipsed its
season scoring average by more than 37 points in an 89-69
non-conference women's basketball victory over Goucher on
Tuesday.
Snoops added her second double-double of the season for the
Green Terror (4-13) with 14 rebounds and also contributed a
career-best five assists.
Meredith
Larsen (Phoenix, Md./Bryn Mawr), celebrating her 22nd birthday,
contributed a career-high 14 points, hitting her first six shots of
the night en route to a 7-for-8 showing from the floor. Kim Acton (Severna
Park, Md./Severna Park) added a career-high 19 points while Allie Eader
(Frederick, Md./Linganore) matched Snoops with a career-high five
assists to go with her career best-tying eight points.
Elizabeth von Ende led the Gophers (2-14) with 17 points while
Sharnell Huff and Precious Kollock also reached double figures with
15 and 12 points, respectively.
After watching Goucher race out to an 8-2 advantage in the
game's first 3:08, Eader, Snoops and Acton all converted from close
range over a 1-minute, 34-second span to knot the game at
8-all.
Acton converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give
McDaniel the lead and four straight points from Larsen helped
extend the run to 13-0, giving the hosts a seven-point edge with
11:14 to play in the first half.
An Acton putback with 6:48 showing extended the first half lead
to as many as 25-13 before the Gophers closed to within four en
route to a 36-30 deficit at the break.
A Snoops layup on the Green Terror's first possession of the
second half followed by a von Ende triple – one of nine
3-pointers canned by Goucher on the night – made it a
five-point game before 32 seconds had elapsed.
Clinging to a 57-47 lead with 11:09 on the clock after von Ende
converted a three-point play, Snoops hit a jumper to spark a 20-5
run over the game's next 4:49 to take a 25-point lead – the
largest of the game.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Bryn Mawr on
Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
