Glotfelty takes sole possession of wins record

Johns Hopkins downs McDaniel in conference dual

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Patrick Stanley recorded a first-period pin to lead Johns Hopkins to a 28-12 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling action on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays (3-9, 1-0 CC) opened their conference schedule with seven victories, including three straight to secure the victory with two matches to wrestle.

At approximately 8:28 p.m., Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) walked onto the mat for the 133rd time in a Green Terror uniform. Seven minutes later, he walked off a winner once again for McDaniel (3-6, 1-1 CC), notching a 12-3 victory to cap the night.

For Glotfelty, it wasn't just another win. It was his 21st consecutive victory to open the season but – more importantly – it was the 113th of the senior's career, breaking a tie with Charlie Conaway atop the all-time wins list – a deadlock that lasted just three days.

With a 113-20 career mark, he accomplished the program record in 19 fewer matches than Conaway, who finished his 1996-2000 tenure with a record of 112-40.

With more than a month remaining in the campaign, Glotfelty also enters the CC's top five in career wins. Gettysburg's Jake Dell (1995-98) holds the conference record with 140 victories.

Ray Yagloski opened the match with a 4-3 decision, using an escape and takedown in the second period to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead en route to giving the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.

Tom Goretsas (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) gave the Green Terror a one-point advantage a match later with a 16-3 major-decision victory that included a pair of warning points late in the third period.

With 11 seconds remaining in the first sudden-victory period, Duncan Crystal recorded a takedown to break the 1-all deadlock for a 3-1 victory and a 6-4 Johns Hopkins lead.

An injury default midway through the second period gave Rocky Barilla the victory and his team a 12-4 lead in the match.

A takedown off a restart late in the third period gave Logan Yox (Westminster, Md./Liberty) a seven-point lead in the match. With nearly four minutes of riding time, the freshman earned a major decision by a 9-1 margin to trim the deficit to 12-8.

Eric Levenseller countered with a major decision of his own, however, to extend the lead back to eight with a 10-2 victory at 165.

Patrick Stanley notched his team-leading sixth pin of the season, falling Chris Urps (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) in 1:32.

Reid Mosquera used a late takedown to secure a 6-3 win – his second straight victory over Will Yeo (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) after defeating him in Saturday's title bout at Waynesburg.

McDaniel returns to action in a quad match at home against Merchant Marine, Stevens and Washington and Lee on Saturday. Action begins at 10 a.m.
