Box Score McDaniel strikes early but Utica rallies for 3-2 win
ERIE, Pa. – Robert Sgueglia broke a 2-all tie with 14:23
to play to lift Utica to a 3-2 win over McDaniel in the consolation
game of 2010 Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn
State-Behrend in non-conference men's soccer action on
Sunday.
The Green Terror (0-2) tallied twice in the game's opening
24:01 and held that advantage until the Pioneers (1-1) netted three
goals in a 6-minute, 18-second span for the win.
David Garcia broke up the shutout at the 69:19 mark, finishing a
Kyle Tassone feed before DJ Ilebni netted the equalizer fewer than
three minutes later.
Sgueglia made it a one-goal, one-assist day, converting a
penalty kick for the Utica victory.
Luis Calderon (Silver Spring, Md./Bullis) netted
McDaniel's first goal of the season just 11:16 into the game
on a shot from 30 yards out.
Marrio Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore)
stretched the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted tally in the 25th
minute.
Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made nine saves in
goal for the Green Terror, who was outshot 30-9 in the contest.
McDaniel returns to action at Goucher on Wednesday. Game time is
7 p.m.
