Box Score Green Terror 11 of final 15 points for 17th straight, 59-54 win
at Haverford
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South
River) made it back-to-back 20-point outings with a
22-point outburst in McDaniel's 59-54 Centennial Conference (CC)
women's basketball victory at Haverford on Monday.
Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton
Keough) added 13 points, including recording a steal and
pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds, for the Green Terror
(17-4, 15-2 CC), who secured a first-round bye in the upcoming CC
tournament.
Nina Voith led the Fords (5-14, 3-12 CC) with
15 points while Calla Miller and Dominique
Meeks chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Trailing 49-48, Moreland hit a layup with 4:49 to play that gave
McDaniel a one-point advantage.
A single Voith free throw on the other end evened the game
before Fischer canned a 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 4:01
to play to give the Green Terror the lead for good.
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
added a layup with 2:53 on the clock to stretch the lead to three
before Meeks responded with a layup of her own.
Neither team scored again until Fischer stole the ball in the
backcourt in the final 30 seconds and was fouled.
The freshman sank both free throws with 22.1 seconds on the
clock before a missed 3-pointer at the other end and Moreland
rebound and two free throws with 6.6 seconds showing set the final
margin.
After Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North
Hagerstown) and Dominique Meeks exchanged
baskets in the first 1:41, Ali Moreland (Davidsonville,
Md./South River) drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the
key at the 17:51 mark to ignite a 12-2 run that included nine
straight points to take a 14-4 lead with 13:02 showing.
Four straight Haverford points closed the deficit to six with
11:33 on the clock.
A Calla Miller basket-and-foul drew the hosts
within 16-11 at the 9:17 mark but McDaniel reeled off five straight
to re-establish a double-digit advantage.
The Green Terror maintained a lead between six and 10 points the
remainder of the half.
An 11-2 burst to open the second half gave the Fords their first
lead of the game. Miller capped the stretch with a 3-pointer at the
14:38 mark to give the hosts a 37-33 lead.
A Moreland jumper and three-point play from Katelyn
Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) once again gave
McDaniel a one-point advantage 54 seconds later.
Four straight points from Meredith Schoyer gave
Haverford a 41-38 lead and forced a Green Terror timeout with 12:16
on the clock.
Over the next nearly eight minutes, the teams exchanged the lead
five times with two ties before McDaniel's late burst sealed the
team's 17th consecutive victory.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Johns Hopkins
on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
