Bullets use late run to down McDaniel 61-46 in season finale

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Andrew Powers notched a game-high 25 points to lead Gettysburg to a 61-46 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.

Brendan Trelease added 12 points for the Bullets (14-10, 12-6 CC), who used an 11-2 run late in the second half to turn a one-point cushion into a 10-point lead and enter next week's conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.

Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) netted 17 points to lead the Green Terror (8-17, 4-14 CC), who finished the season on a nine-game losing streak.

Clinging to a 39-38 lead, Trelease converted a three-point play with 8:57 on the clock to spark the 3-minute, 24-second game-clinching stretch.

A Tyler Rudd (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) jumper in the lane to trim the deficit to two but Trelease canned one of his three 3-pointers and Powers connected on a pair of baskets to stretch the lead to nine.

A single Alex Zurn free throw gave Gettysburg its first double-digit advantage.

A Jones 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 52-45 with 3:01 to play but two Hager free throws, a Zurn dunk on the break and Trelease 3-pointer from the left corner as the shot clock expired accounted for a 7-0 stretch, pushing the lead to 14 en route to the 15-point win.

The teams exchanged baskets over the first 4:30 of the game before a Powers layup with 13:10 showing gave the Bullets an 8-5 lead and sparked a 10-2 stretch that gave the visitors a 16-7 lead with 10:30 on the clock.

A Steve Wilson (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) 3-pointer started a 6-0 burst that turned a 26-17 deficit into a 26-23 game with 2:42 to play in the first half.

A Tim Lang layup at the 1:18 mark made it a 30-25 game at intermission before a Powers basket-and-foul on Gettysburg's first possession of the second half stretched the lead to eight.

A Max Keenan (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Day School) tip-in pulled McDaniel within 37-36 with 11:58 to play before Kevin Kennedy and Marcus Dyson (Scotch Plains, N.J./Union Catholic) exchanged baskets over the next two and a half minutes to set up the Bullets' game-clinching stretch.
