Box Score Bullets use late run to down McDaniel 61-46 in season
finale
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Andrew Powers notched a
game-high 25 points to lead Gettysburg to a 61-46 victory over
McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on
Saturday.
Brendan Trelease added 12 points for the
Bullets (14-10, 12-6 CC), who used an 11-2 run late in the second
half to turn a one-point cushion into a 10-point lead and enter
next week's conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County)
netted 17 points to lead the Green Terror (8-17, 4-14 CC), who
finished the season on a nine-game losing streak.
Clinging to a 39-38 lead, Trelease converted a three-point play
with 8:57 on the clock to spark the 3-minute, 24-second
game-clinching stretch.
A Tyler Rudd (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie)
jumper in the lane to trim the deficit to two but Trelease canned
one of his three 3-pointers and Powers connected on a pair of
baskets to stretch the lead to nine.
A single Alex Zurn free throw gave Gettysburg
its first double-digit advantage.
A Jones 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 52-45 with 3:01 to play
but two Hager free throws, a Zurn dunk on the break and Trelease
3-pointer from the left corner as the shot clock expired accounted
for a 7-0 stretch, pushing the lead to 14 en route to the 15-point
win.
The teams exchanged baskets over the first 4:30 of the game
before a Powers layup with 13:10 showing gave the Bullets an 8-5
lead and sparked a 10-2 stretch that gave the visitors a 16-7 lead
with 10:30 on the clock.
A Steve Wilson (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon)
3-pointer started a 6-0 burst that turned a 26-17 deficit into a
26-23 game with 2:42 to play in the first half.
A Tim Lang layup at the 1:18 mark made it a
30-25 game at intermission before a Powers basket-and-foul on
Gettysburg's first possession of the second half stretched the lead
to eight.
A Max Keenan (Washington, D.C./Georgetown Day
School) tip-in pulled McDaniel within 37-36 with 11:58 to
play before Kevin Kennedy and Marcus Dyson
(Scotch Plains, N.J./Union Catholic) exchanged baskets
over the next two and a half minutes to set up the Bullets'
game-clinching stretch.
