Box Score Bears hand Green Terror second loss in as many days
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Lindsay Teuber recorded a
double-double with game highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead
Ursinus to a 71-63 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference
(CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
paced the Green Terror (17-6, 15-4 CC) with 18 points while
Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough)
added 10 points in the team's second loss in as many days after a
17-game winning streak was snapped by Johns Hopkins on Friday.
Alex Shivers and Alli Rosati
added 11 points each for the Bears (11-12, 8-10 CC), who held on to
their slim conference playoff hopes with the victory.
Knotted at 55-all after Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown,
Md./Seton Keough) rattled home a 3-pointer with 4:52 to
play, Rosati hit a long jumper to spark a 9-0 burst that gave the
hosts a 64-55 advantage just over two minutes later.
Laura Krieger canned a triple and Ursinus hit
four straight free throws for the team's largest lead of the
contest.
Two Lyles free throws at the 2:32 mark snapped the drought but
Rosati responded with a jumper to push the lead back to nine.
A Sally Grace (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales
Academy) layup with 1:11 on the clock trimmed the deficit
to seven.
A single Shivers free throws and two Lyles charity tosses closed
the deficit to 67-61 but McDaniel could get no closer.
A 4-for-4 showing from Ursinus in the waning seconds set the
final margin.
Knotted at 15-all, Ali Moreland (Davidsonville,
Md./South River) canned a 3-pointer from the left wing
with 8:22 on the clock to spark a 9-0 burst.
A Jen Sroba layup at the 4:35 mark snapped a
4-minute, 34-second scoreless drought for Ursinus and opened an 8-0
counter that closed the deficit to one.
Rachael Rybak (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) hit
a single free throw to make it a 25-23 game with 1:23 on the clock
but Laura Krieger hit a 15-foot jumper to even the
game once again.
Two Fischer free throws with 9.5 seconds showing made it a 27-25
game at the intermission.
Two Lyles free throws with 10:32 to play gave the visitors a
44-38 advantage but Ursinus reeled off seven straight points to
take a one-point lead.
Cara Thompson (Hagerstown, Md./North
Hagerstown) responded with a layup to give McDaniel a
46-45 edge with 8:44 to play but two Teuber free throws gave the
Bears the advantage once again and the hosts never trailed
thereafter.
Lyles finished off a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The Green Terror concludes the regular season at home against
Gettysburg on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
