Box Score McDaniel comes up short in back-and-forth game
BALTIMORE, Md. - John Alberici led four players
in double figures with 17 points to pace Johns Hopkins in a 65-58
win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball
action on Monday.
Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) led the
Green Terror (8-11, 4-8 CC) with a career-high 20 points while
Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) added
11.
Mike Henrici added 14 points for the Blue Jays
(9-10, 5-7 CC), who got 11 points from Pat
O'Connell and 10 from Tim McCarty.
Trailing 56-55 on a Jones layup with 3:48 to play, Alberici
converted a three-point play to give Johns Hopkins a two-point
lead.
Jarboe evened the game with 3:14 to play but the Blue Jays
converted seven of their eight free throws in the final 44 seconds
to win the game.
A Mike Rhoads jumper with 14:51 to play in the
opening half gave Johns Hopkins an early 12-5 advantage before
Marcus Dyson (Scotch Plains, N.J./Union Catholic)
hit a layup a minute later to spark a 10-2 run.
Jarboe capped the stretch, hitting a 3-pointer with 11:29 on the
clock to give McDaniel its first lead of the game.
A triple from Christopher Cowles (West Chester,
Pa./Bayard Rustin) a Dyson jumper stretched the Green
Terror lead to as many as seven at 29-22 with 5:13 showing before
the hosts closed the half with a 12-4 burst to take a one-point
lead into the break.
In a game that featured five ties and 22 lead changes, neither
team led by more than three over the first 19 minutes of the second
half.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on
Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
