Green Terror opens season with pair of losses at Maryland
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) notched two wins but McDaniel dropped a pair of matches, opening the season at the Terrapin Duals hosted by Maryland in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (0-2) dropped a 30-9 decision to Liberty before falling to the host Terrapins, 40-3.
In the first match of the day, the Flames (3-1) won the first five matches to open a 20-0 advantage in the match.
Joel Stafford and Eric Reger bookended the stretch with major-decision victories. Stafford won 10-2 at 125 while Reger was victorious 10-0 at 157.
Joey Montgomery had the highlight win, downing Mike Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.) 3-1 in the first sudden-victory period at 141.
Matt Peters (Annadale, Va./W.T. Woodson) broke up the shutout with an 11-5 win at 165 before Marcus Nielson secured the victory with a 1-minute, 8-second pin at 174.
Glotfelty rounded out the match with a forfeit win.
Against Maryland (3-1), the Terrapins took the first nine matches before Glotfelty won 6-1 at heavyweight to close out the match.
Mike Letts (174) and Kyle John (157) keyed the victory for the hosts. Letts won by fall in 1:23 while John had a first-period technical fall, 15-0.
McDaniel returns to action at the Ursinus Fall Brawl on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
