Box Score Green Terror unable to find golden goal in overtime, settles
for third tie
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kelly Crawford (Galloway,
N.J./Absegami) recorded a goal and assist for McDaniel in a 2-all
double-overtime draw with Goucher in non-conference women's
soccer action on Tuesday.
Kellen Matthews made eight saves for the Gophers (2-6-2) while
Jan Woolley (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) had seven stops for the Green
Terror (2-4-3), who finished the game with a 24-13 advantage in
shots that included by a 5-0 margin in the second 10-minute extra
session.
Crawford opened the scoring just 40 seconds into the game,
finishing from short range off a service pass from Liz Beall
(Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).
In the 25th minute, Shay Kettner beat the defense and finished
in the upper half of the net from the right side.
In the 73rd minute, Crawford knocked a shot off the
keeper's hand that bounced out to Hilary Hanus (Hockessin,
Del./Cab Calloway School of the Arts), who finished from straight
on for her team-leading third goal of the season.
Off a free kick from just outside the box in the 80th minute,
Caroline McDowell went top-shelf to once again even the game.
McDaniel had its opportunities late in regulation, including
with one of its three corner kicks in the waning seconds but the
attack was unable to get a shot off the serve and also carried play
in the second overtime.
Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) twice had a
chance for the game-winner in the final five minutes but both times
put a long shot from the right side just wide of the left post.
With its third tie of the season, the Green Terror set a program
record for ties in a season and have played to more draws in the
first nine games of the season than in head coach Bryan
Shumaker's first three seasons combined.
McDaniel returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on
Saturday. Game time is 12 p.m.
