Dickinson stays alive in playoff hunt

Red Devils score four second-half goals for 5-1 victory over McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Ben Gemberling-Johnson and Taylor Ferry each recorded a goal and an assist to lead Dickinson to a 5-1 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Tuesday.

The Red Devils (10-3-3, 4-2-2 CC) scored four goals in the second half, outshooting the Green Terror (5-11, 2-6 CC) by a 14-7 margin in the period and 23-15 for the game to stay alive in the chase for the CC tournament. McDaniel was officially eliminated from postseason contention with the loss.

Ferry staked Dickinson to a 1-0 halftime lead, scoring off a restart right at the top of the box in the 21st minute.

In the 62nd minute, Javier Mena knocked home a loose ball off a Dale Rodman shot-and-save.

Nearly nine minutes later, Ferry found Gemberling-Johnson on a long pass off a restart that was tapped home for a 3-0 lead.

In the 77th minute, Nicolas Tierno quick played a ball to Sung Woo Kim, who passed to David Lister in front of the cage to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Gemberling-Johnson hit Ron Geedey in the 87th minute before Nathan Greenwood (Bethesda, Md./Blue Ridge) set the final margin, scoring off a misplay by the Red Devil keeper with 33 seconds to play.

Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) made seven saves for McDaniel.

The Green Terror concludes the season at Gettysburg on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
