Green Terror downs Coast Guard in first action of 2010
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville,
Md./Northern Garrett) won his first three matches of the
day to improve to 21-0 but dropped a 3-2 decision to Ithaca's
Joe Goetz for his first defeat of the season,
leading McDaniel at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus in
non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (2-3) dropped its first two matches of the day,
falling to West Chester 32-21 and Wilkes 39-4 before defeating
Coast Guard Academy 26-16. McDaniel added a 44-0 loss to Ithaca.
Against West Chester, a Tommy Goretsas (Hampstead,
Md./North Carroll) major decision and Mike
Tancredi (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.) forfeit staked the Green
Terror to a 10-6 lead but the Rams reeled off victories in the four
bouts, including back-to-back pins at 165 and 174 to take a 26-10
lead.
Will Yeo's (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills)
1-minute, 6-second pin trimmed the deficit to 26-16 but a West
Chester pin at 197 sealed the match before Glotfelty notched a
technical fall to close out the match.
Against Wilkes, the Colonials notched wins in each of the first
nine bouts, including pins by Scott Mantua at 125
and Zach Pizarro at 197 before Glotfelty notched
the Green Terror's lone win in the form of a 10-2 major decision.
Mark Lobeck (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic)
earned a forfeit at 125 to stake McDaniel to an early 6-0 lead
against Coast Guard.
The Bears evened the match after decisions at 133 and 141 before
a Brent Lowe (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) technical
fall at 149 put the Green Terror back in front, 11-6.
Three straight Coast Guard wins made it a 16-11 match but Yeo
(4:43) and Glotfelty (1:24) each recorded pins around a Joe
Camlin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) 13-8 win.
Three pins keyed Ithaca's 44-0 victory. Jon
Gregory (125), Evan Connors (157) and
Derek Brenon (165) all won by fall in the Bomber
shutout. Gregory's and Connor's pins both came in the first period.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Waynesburg on
Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
