Box Score McDaniel falls in overtime for first time this season
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Spencer Liddic and
Ryan Foster combined for 41 points, leading
Muhlenberg to a 73-68 overtime win at McDaniel in Centennial
Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.
Liddic led the way with a game-high 21 points for the Mules
(11-8, 9-3 CC), who got 20 points from Foster and 15 from
Evan Tozer.
Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) led the
Green Terror (8-10, 4-7 CC) with 19 points. Marcus Dyson
(Scotch Plains, N.J./Union Catholic) added a double-double
with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Miguel Jones
(Baltimore, Md./North County) chipped in 15 points.
Trailing by as many as 11 in the second half, McDaniel put
together a 27-9 run that included holding Muhlenberg without a
field goal for nearly seven minutes, taking a 52-45 lead with 9:25
to play in regulation.
The Mules, however, countered with a 13-3 burst to take a 58-55
lead on a Liddic free throw with 2:30 to play.
Liddic singlehandedly led the comeback, converting five straight
points from the line to turn a two-point deficit into a three-point
edge.
A Dyson jumper in the lane made it a one-point game with 2:16 on
the clock before Brian Frankoski's layup with 28.3
seconds showing stretched the lead to three.
After three inbounds in the frontcourt, Jarboe canned a triple
from the right wing with 8.8 on the clock to force overtime.
Justin Greenstone banked home a triple to open
overtime and the visitors never trailed in the extra session to
hand McDaniel its first overtime defeat in four games this season.
Muhlenberg built a 15-5 lead over the game's first 6:35 and
eventually stretched the lead to 16 on back-to-back Foster
3-pointers that made it a 27-11 game with 5:27 to play in the first
half.
The Green Terror netted nine of the stanza's final 11 points to
trim the deficit to 29-20 at intermission.
The Mules connected on 27 of their 38 attempts from the charity
stripe in the game, including 21 of 31 in the second half and
overtime. McDaniel went to the line just 25 times, hitting 14.
The Green Terror returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Monday.
