Aggies notch pair of pins in 31-13 victory
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Zak Andrews recorded a pin
in 34 seconds to lead fifth-ranked Delaware Valley to a 31-13
victory over McDaniel in non-conference wrestling action on Friday.
Brent Lowe (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) led the
Green Terror (3-4) with a major decision at 149 - one of three
victories by the host.
The Aggies (7-2) also received a pin from Michhael
Chiapetta at 165.
Emmanuel Ajagbe turned a 10-9 deficit into
12-10 lead with an 8-3 victory at 157 before Chiapetta notched a
5-minute, 55-second fall at 165 to extend the lead to 18-10.
Dan Daddino sealed the match with a 10-2
victory at 174 before Will Yeo (Lexington Park, Md./Great
Mills) earned a 7-0 win at 184 to close the Green Terror
deficit to 22-13.
Jeff Siciliano earned a forfeit at 197 before
the battle of ranked opponents at heavyweight.
After three restarts early in the third period and the match
tied at 2-all, second-ranked Kyle Bilquist finally
got his escape 25 seconds into the third period to take a 3-2 lead.
No. 10 Block Glotfelty (Grantsville, Md./Northern
Garrett) nearly got the takedown he needed in the final 30
seconds of the match but the wrestlers went out of bounds before he
could finish the move.
After Earl Eppard (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne)
was awarded at a forfeit at 125 to give McDaniel a 6-0 lead,
Eric McCann held off Tommy Goretsas
(Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) for a 6-5 win at 133.
Andrews followed with his team-leading 16th fall of the season.
Lowe momentarily gave the Green Terror a 10-9 lead with a 10-2
major decision at 149. Behind a big second period, Lowe staved off
a late takedown attempt by Dale Fava to preserve
the four points.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference
opener at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. Match time is 7 p.m.
