Box Score Bears net five of final seven points for victory at
McDaniel
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Jon Ward led all scorers
with 19 points, including five straight with the game tied late, to
lead Ursinus to a 62-57 Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball
victory over McDaniel on Thursday.
Remy Cousart added 18 points for the Bears
(8-6, 4-3 CC), who tallied five of the game's final seven points to
break a 55-all deadlock and move ahead of the Green Terror (7-6,
3-3 CC) in the conference standings.
Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) and
Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) led McDaniel
with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Trailing 55-52, Jones drained hit fourth 3-pointer of the game
to tie the game for the third time with 3:44 to play.
With 2:10 to play, Ward hit a layup and then an old-fashioned
three-point play 39 seconds later to give his team a five-point
lead.
A Jarboe layup with 1:14 on the clock made it a one-possession
game but Matt Hilton sank a pair of free throws
with 13.5 seconds to play to seal the win.
Trailing 6-2 on a Jones triple 3:29 into the game, Cousart
responded with a trey of his own and Hilton hit a pair of free
throws to spark a 14-0 run that gave Ursinus a 16-6 with 11:32
showing.
Down 24-17 with 4:48 showing, Jarboe canned one of six
first-half 3-pointers for the Green Terror to spark a 9-0 burst to
take a 26-24 lead with 2:20 showing in the first half en route to a
30-29 halftime advantage.
Two TJ Jones free throws with 14:10 to play in
the second half gave Ursinus a 43-38 lead.
Trailing 52-48 on a Ward jumper with 6:20 showing, Louis
Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) hit a
layup to trim the gap to two with 5:27 on the clock.
The Green Terror returns to action at No. 11 Franklin &
Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
