Box Score Wineke tallies fourth of season on McDaniel penalty kick but
Gophers tally twice in each half
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Evan Rosse tallied twice in
the game's final 3:35 to seal a 4-1 win for Goucher over McDaniel
in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday.
The Gophers (3-1) tallied twice in the game's first 17:09 before
Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North Carroll)
pulled the Green Terror (2-3) within one in the game 74th minute.
Elijah Lais dribbled down the left side and by
a diving McDaniel goalkeeper before finding the back of the net at
the 9:26 mark for a 1-0 lead.
Nearly eight minutes later, Andrew Bull sent a
shot in from 20 yards out off the post on the top-left corner of
the cage to double the advantage.
At the 73:01 mark, Wineke converted a penalty kick for his
fourth marker of the season and the third straight goal the Green
Terror has scored on a penalty kick.
In the 87th minute, Bull played a short pass from the right post
to Rosse, who headed the ball in for a 3-1 lead.
With 44 seconds to play, Rosse knocked in a Jay
Berger pass to give Goucher more goals in the game than
the squad had scored in its first three games combined.
Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty)
made six saves in the first half for McDaniel while
Benjamin Knight (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough
Regional) made one save in the second half.
The Gophers, who got six saves from Justin
Holbrook, finished with a slim 16-15 edge in shots while
the Green Terror had a 12-6 advantage in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Widener on Saturday.
