Green Terror knocks off Stevenson in three sets
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Kristen Nuckles (Suffolk,
Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) recorded 21 assists and six
digs to lead McDaniel to a 3-0 victory over Stevenson in
non-conference volleyball action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (1-0) opened the season with a sweep, taking
the first set 25-21 before handing the Mustangs (1-1), who went
32-8 last season, their first loss of the season with 25-15 and
25-16 wins in sets two and three, respectively.
Dani Katsampis recorded six kills to lead the
Stevenson attack, which hit -.082 for the match.
Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) keyed
the McDaniel attack with 10 kills, leaving her 17 shy of the
1,000-kill mark. She also added two block assists.
Katie Ferguson (Dover, Pa./Northern York)
steadied the Green Terror defense with nine digs.
Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) added five kills and four total blocks.
Freshman Anne McShea (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) registered four kills, three aces and six digs in
her debut.
Three Mustang players reached double figures in the dig column.
Avery Gabbard led the way with 12 while
Alexa Carney and Katsampis added 11 and 10,
respectively.
McDaniel returns to action in a tri-match at Elizabethtown on
Saturday. The Green Terror takes on the host Blue Jays at 12 p.m.
before playing York (Pa.) at 2 p.m.
