McDaniel breaks open deadlock at halftime with three
second-half tallies over Juniata
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Marrio Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends
School of Baltimore) tallied his first two collegiate
goals as part of McDaniel's 4-1 victory over Juniata in
non-conference men's soccer action on Thursday.
The Green Terror (1-1) controlled play in the second half,
outshooting the Eagles (1-1) by an 11-1 margin to finish with an
18-5 advantage for the game. McDaniel also added an 11-2 edge in
corner kicks, including 8-1 in the decisive second half.
After Davis put the Green Terror on the board in the 17th minute
off a misplay by the Juniata keeper, Andrew
Steffen sent a ball over the top of the defense that
Aaron Bray floated in from 30 yards out past a
drawn out McDaniel goalie to even the score with 1:24 remaining in
the first half.
Just 5:23 into the second half, Davis put home his own rebound
to give the Green Terror the lead for good.
Adam Sommers (Frostburg, Md./Beall) stretched
the lead to 3-1 in the 80th minute when he was waiting on the back
post to knock home a Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown,
Md./North Carroll) shot-and-save.
With 2:05 to play, Wineke put the game out of reach, heading
home an Eddy Lingue (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake)
pass from the right side of the endline.
Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty)
didn't need to make a save to pick up the win in his first start of
the season.
McDaniel returns to action at the Mary Washington Soccer Classic
against Marymount on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
