Box Score Knight makes 11 saves for McDaniel in 2-1 double overtime loss
to Blue Jays
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Dan Featherer found the
back of the net with 2:38 remaining in the second overtime to lift
Elizabethtown to a 2-1 victory over McDaniel in non-conference
men's soccer action on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays (6-0) held a commanding 26-6 advantage in shots
but the Green Terror (3-4) got a career-high 11 saves from
Benjamin Knight (Acton, Mass./Boxborough-Acton
Regional), including a diving save with two seconds
remaining in regulation to force the extra sessions.
The two teams battled through the first 10-minute overtime
period without a goal and worked through the first seven minutes of
the second extra session without a tally.
In the 108th minute, Geoff Cochrane served a
ball into the box that Fetherer gathered, turned and blasted into
the back of the net for the game-winner.
Off a scramble in front of the net, Javeim
Blanchette knocked home a shot at the 33:39 mark to stake
Elizabethtown to a 1-0 first-half lead.
In the 62nd minute, Marrio Davis (Baltimore, Md./Friends
School of Baltimore) found Max Rutherford
(Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), who evened the game with
a shot from 10 yards out.
In addition to their 20-shot advantage, the Blue Jays also had
an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Green Terror returns to action in the Centennial Conference
opener at Haverford on Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m.
