Box Score Wolverines overcome early 1-0 deficit, hold McDaniel off
board
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Omar De Los Santos recorded
a goal and an assist to lead Wesley to a 2-1 victory over McDaniel
in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday.
In the opener for both teams, the Green Terror (0-1) tallied in
the game's 11th minute before De Los Santos keyed a pair of goals
in an 8-minute, 17-second span, giving the Wolverines (1-0) the
win.
At the 24:51 mark, Saidu Fofanah collected and
redirected a long pass from Luis Rivera to a
waiting De Los Santos in front of the net, evening the game at 1.
Off a restart in the 34th minute, De Los Santos centered the
ball from the right side, where Joshua Challah
headed it home in the backside of the net for a 2-1 advantage.
Timothy Wineke (Reisterstown, Md./North
Carroll) headed in a long Adam Sommers (Frostburg,
Md./Beall) pass off the crossbar and down to stake
McDaniel to a 1-0 lead at the 10:19 mark.
Eddy Lingue (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) had a
chance to even the game in the 76th minute but a diving
Nick Talarico stopped the ball just shy of the
goal line to preserve the win.
Wesley finished with a slim 7-5 advantage in shots and 5-4 edge
in corner kicks.
Talarico made two saves in goal for the Wolverines while
Benjamin Knight (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxbourough
Regional) and Robert Hollasch (Marriottsville,
Md./Liberty) split time in goal for the Green Terror
finishing with one and two saves, respectively.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Juniata on Thursday.
