WESTMINSTER, Md. – Kim Staub (Hanover, Pa./Delone
Catholic) recorded a career-best 15 points to pace
McDaniel in a 71-59 Centennial Conference (CC) women's
basketball victory over Ursinus on Saturday.
Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River)
added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for
the Green Terror (11-9, 9-6 CC), who snapped its three-game skid
and kept pace in the win column with four other conference
teams.
Laura Krieger led the Bears (4-16, 3-11 CC) with
13 points while Jaclyn Hilf and Alli
Rosati chipped in 10 points apiece.
After Carolyn Konstanzer gave Ursinus a 43-42 lead
with 12 minutes to play, Emma Adams (Oneida,
N.Y./Oneida) reversed the advantage for the
11th and final time in the game, giving McDaniel the
lead for good 19 seconds later.
Staub extended the lead to 50-46 with a pair of free throws at the
9:14 mark, sparking a 12-2 run over the next 4:12 that stretched
the lead to 12.
A Hilf 3-pointer with 1:35 on the clock closed the gap to 64-57 but
Staub, Moreland and Sally Grace (Catonsville, Md./Mount de
Sales Academy) combined to go 7-for-8 from the charity
stripe in the final minute to extend the final margin to
12.
Julie Bown and Rosati staked Ursinus to an early
4-0 lead, forcing McDaniel to call a timeout 1:09 into the
game.
Jumpers from Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) and Staub knotted the game at
4-all.
Trailing by as many as six when Krieger hit two free throws at the
8:53 mark to give her team a 20-14 lead, Kara Smith
(Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) hit a layup and Grace
converted two from the charity stripe to help the Green Terror chip
at the deficit.
A Krieger 3-pointer stretched the lead back to five but consecutive
layups from Catherine Mills (Ijamsville,
Md./Urbana), Meredith Larsen (Phoenix, Md./Bryn
Mawr) and Adams gave McDaniel the lead once again with
5:57 showing.
Trailing 34-32, Smith hit a pair of free throws in the half's
final second to knot the game at halfitme.
The Green Terror notched the first seven points of the second
stanza but Ursinus countered with seven of the next eight for its
only second-half advantage.
Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop
Spalding) added seven points and 10 rebounds.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on
Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
