ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sheila Cook netted a
game-high 26 points to lead No. 19 Muhlenberg to a 67-51 victory
over McDaniel in the 2009 Centennial Conference (CC) women's
basketball semifinals on Saturday.
Kelly McKeon added a double-double with 14 points
and 10 rebounds for the Mules (23-3) to lead her team to the
championship game against the winner of Franklin & Marshall and
Johns Hopkins.
Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
led the Green Terror (15-12) with a double-double of her own,
recording 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Holding a 4-2 lead with 16:55 to play in the opening half,
Muhlenberg tallied the next 14 points to open up a 16-2 lead with
12:17 showing. Cook keyed the run with eight points.
A 7-0 McDaniel burst pulled the visitors within seven but the Mules
countered with another 14-5 run to stretch the advantage to 30-14
with 2:44 remaining in the opening half.
Muhlenberg held a 34-20 lead at the intermission and stretched the
lead to 20 for the first time at 52-32 with 13:39 to
play.
Six straight Mule points between the 8:06 mark and the 5:42 mark
swelled the lead to its largest at 64-38 before the Green Terror
closed the game scoring 13 of the final 16.
