WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel will travel to Lancaster, Pa.,
in search of its first Centennial Conference (CC) men's
basketball championship this weekend.
The second-seeded Green Terror (18-7, 13-5 CC) faces third-seeded
Gettysburg (16-8, 11-7 CC) in Saturday's first semifinal at 1
p.m. The two teams split the two regular-season meetings with each
team winning on its home court.
The day's second semifinal pits top-seeded Franklin &
Marshall (21-4, 14-4 CC) against the winner of the first-round game
between fourth-seeded Muhlenberg (15-10, 11-7 CC) and fifth-seeded
Haverford (12-12, 9-9 CC). That game begins at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes
upon the conclusion of the day's first
semifinal.
The championship game will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Admission for all games is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Youths 12 and under as well as students from participating
institutions, who present their ID, are free.
The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic
bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin on
Thursday, Mar. 5. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday
morning.
McDaniel is seeking its first CC championship and berth in the NCAA
tournament. Gettysburg and Muhlenberg are in search of
their third conference crown while Haverford goes for its first CC
title. Franklin & Marshall seeks its fifth conference
title.
Josh McKay (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) leads the
team in scoring (10.6 points per game) and ranks second in
rebounding (6.4 rebounds per game). Chad Arrington
(Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) leads the team in
rebounding (7.4 rpg), assists (48) and steals (47).
