GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Andrew Powers recorded
17 points off the bench to lead Gettysburg to a 53-48 victory over
McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball
action on Saturday.
The Bullets (16-8, 11-7 CC), by virtue of Muhlenberg's 97-90
overtime loss at Ursinus, earn the third seed in the upcoming CC
tournament. The Green Terror (18-7, 13-5 CC) will be the second
seed and face Gettysburg in the semifinals on Saturday at Franklin
& Marshall. The 13th-ranked Diplomats, despite
dropping their second straight game – a 74-67 loss at
Dickinson, earned the top spot and will host the tournament. Game
times for the semifinals will be determined on Monday.
Josh McKay (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) paced
McDaniel with 14 points. Dan Capkin and
Corey Dorsey added 16 and 12 points, respectively,
for Gettysburg.
Trailing 33-31 on a Louis Sarris-Grau (Huntingdon Valley,
Pa./Lower Moreland) layup with 11:05 to play, Dorsey and
Capkin hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Capkin added a pair of free
throws to account for an 8-0 run that gave the Bullets the lead for
good.
A Dorsey free throw with 5:59 to play stretched the lead to 42-35
but Ryan Finch (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon) canned
a 3-pointer 33 seconds later to closed the deficit to
four.
A McKay triple with 14 seconds to play trimmed the margin to 49-48
but Powers and Dorsey went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the
final 11 seconds to secure the win.
A Capkin 3-pointer allowed Gettysburg to open up an 18-10 lead with
8:43 remaining in the first half but the Green Terror closed the
stanza on a 10-2 run to pull even at the break.
McDaniel continued the momentum out of the locker room, extending
the run to 14-2 over a 13-minute, 5-second span to grab a 24-20
advantage with 15:38 showing.
Chad Arrington (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown)
finished with five points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four
steals.
