BALTIMORE, Md. – Josh McKay (Baltimore,
Md./Eastern Tech) recorded a double-double, grabbing 12
rebounds to go with a career-best 28 points, leading McDaniel to a
66-54 victory over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference (CC)
men's basketball action on Wednesday.
Miguel Jones (Baltimore, Md./North County) and
Michael Jarboe (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) finished
with nine points apiece for the Green Terror (18-6, 13-4 CC), who
by virtue of Gettysburg's 72-60 win over Franklin &
Marshall moved within a game of first place. A McDaniel win at
Gettysburg on Saturday coupled with a Dickinson victory over
Franklin & Marshall will send next weekend's CC
tournament to Westminster.
Andrew Farber-Miller paced the Blue Jays (12-12,
7-10 CC) with 12 points.
Behind baskets from three different players, McDaniel built an 8-0
lead and forced a Johns Hopkins timeout just 3:17 into the
game.
The Green Terror, getting four points apiece from McKayand
Kevin Henry (Potomac, Md./Bullis School), hit on
its first six shots to open a 12-2 lead at the 15:55
mark.
A McKay third-chance basket with 13:53 showing stretched the lead
to 16-4 before a Scott Weisenfeld jumper and a
Collin Kamm three-point play pulled the hosts
within 16-9 a minute and a half later.
A Jarboe3-pointer – his third of the half to match is career
high – gave McDaniel a 39-28 lead with 1:55 to play but the
Blue Jays tallied the final five of the stanza to close within six
at the break.
Behind a defense that held Johns Hopkins to just four points over
the first 8:34 of the second half, the Green Terror used 17 points
over the span to build its largest lead at 56-37.
A single Kamm free throw closed the deficit to 60-52 with 3:35 to
play but Johns Hopkins could get no closer.
The Green Terror concludes the regular season at Gettysburg on
Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
