WESTMINSTER, Md. – Brock Glotfelty (Grantsville,
Md./Northern Garrett) went 3-0 with a pair of pins to lead
McDaniel to a 1-2 showing in a Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling
quad meet at home on Saturday.
The Green Terror (9-15, 3-5 CC) opened the day with a 25-13 loss to
Ursinus before falling to Muhlenberg, 27-20. McDaniel finished the
conference slate with a 25-12 victory over Washington and Lee.
Glotfelty recorded pins in his first two bouts, dowing
Fernando Jones (Ursinus) in 2:08 before taking
down Nicholas Pallotta (Muhlenberg) at the 1:12
mark.
Against the Generals' John Christopher,
Glotfelty took a major decision, 10-0.
The Bears (10-4, 5-2 CC) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the match
behind a trio of decision wins.
Brent Lowe (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) broke up
the shutout with a 9-5 win at 149. Zach Hetrick (Hanover,
Pa./South Western) notched the only other win of the match
for McDaniel with a 10-2 major decision victory.
The Mules (6-6, 4-3 CC) won the first four bouts to open an 18-0
lead on the Green Terror before Lowe and Hetrick posted
back-to-back wins to pull the hosts within 18-10. Lowe won 14-5 at
157 before Hetrick recorded a 2-minute, 16-second pin at
165.
A Justin Fitch decision and Matthew
Horn pin secured the match for Muhlenberg before
William Yeo (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) won
11-0 at 197 and Glotfelty capped the match with his 31st
win of the season.
After Samuel Campbell got a takedown in the final
second of the first sudden victory period to stake the Generals
(4-9, 1-6 CC) to a 6-0 lead, Lowe notched a second-period technical
fall to pull the Green Terror with 6-5.
Justin Welch and David Dennis
stretched the lead back to 12-5 with victories but McDaniel won the
final five bouts.
Hetrick completed a 3-0 day with a 9-5 win while Courtney
Nightengale (Sublette, Kan./Cimmaron) won by the same
score at 174.
Ferris Bond (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) won 12-3
at 184 and Yeo notched a final-period pin to go 2-0 on the
day.
McDaniel returns to action on Saturday, hosting the CC
Championships. Action begins at 10 a.m.
