WESTMINSTER, Md. – For the second straight game,
Kim Staub (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) reached
double figures, netting a game-high 14 points to lead McDaniel in a
79-56 key Centennial Conference (CC) victory over Dickinson on
Tuesday.
With Ali Moreland (Davidsonville, Md./South River)
contributing 11 points and seven rebounds, the Green Terror (12-9,
10-6 CC) notched its fourth victory by 20 or more points and
recorded its largest offensive output of the season.
The win coupled with an Ursinus victory over Franklin &
Marshall (57-54) and Johns Hopkins win over Gettysburg (64-45),
McDaniel moves into third place in the CC standings with two games
remaining.
Laura Lyons and Alesha Sisco
tallied 13 points apiece to pace the Red Devils (12-10, 9-6 CC),
who fell into a three-way tie for fourth place with three games to
play. Brooke Muller added 10 points.
After a back-and-forth battle in the opening minutes, Staub hit a
putback layup with 17:27 to play in the opening half, knotting the
game at 6-all and sparking a 13-2 run over the next 4:28 that
allowed McDaniel to open up a 17-8 lead.
Staub had five points during the stretch and Catherine
Mills (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) contributed
four.
Two Sisco free throws with 8:43 on the clock pulled Dickinson
within 21-14 but the Green Terror put together another 15-4 burst
that stretched the lead to as many as 18 at 36-18 nearly seven
minutes later.
Trailing 41-24 after Mills hit a single free throw 18 seconds into
the second half, Muller canned a triple a minute later and
Carole Dempsey hit a layup on the Red
Devils' next possession to trim the deficit to
12.
Holding a 56-41 advantage after Dempsey put back a Lyons'
missed 3-pointer with 10:47 to play, McDaniel tallied the next six
points to stretch the lead to 20 for the first time.
A single Emma Adams (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) free
throw with 3:49 on the clock pushed the lead to its largest point
at 75-50.
Mills and Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) tallied nine points each. Lyles added six boards
and three blocked shots for the Green Terror.
Kara Smith (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) chipped in
eight points off the bench while Whitney Snoops
(Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the way on the
glass with eight rebounds.
McDaniel returns to action at home against No. 10 York (Pa.) on
