Box Score

Green Terror holds on to end 2009 on four-game winning streak

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sally Grace (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) netted a season-high 17 points to lead McDaniel to a 67-59 victory over Susquehanna in non-conference women's basketball action on Friday.

The Green Terror (4-4), behind 10 first-half points from Grace, built a 38-28 halftime advantage before staving off a rally by the Crusaders (5-5) and notching its fourth consecutive victory to end 2009 with a .500 record.

After a Korey McCaffrey gave Susquehanna a 21-20 lead with 8:03 to play in the first half, a Grace steal-and-layup nearly a minute and a half later sparked 16-2 after which McDaniel never trailed.

Five more points from Grace, including one of her four 3-pointers to stretch the lead to 36-23 with 1:55 to play in the first half.

Holding a 38-28 at halftime, the Green Terror maintained a 45-36 lead with 15:48 to play in the second half before the Crusaders put together a 9-0 run over the next five minutes to even the game for the fifth and final time.

A Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) layup with 10:36 to play gave the Green Terror the lead for good.

Two Ashley Lyles (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) free throws with 3:18 on the clock snapped a nearly three-minute scoring drought.

On McDaniel's next possession, Ali Morland (Davidsonville, Md./South River), who was held to two points to that point, drained a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to extend the lead to eight.

Moreland finished with five points, four assists and four steals while Whitney Snoops (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added 10 points, four points and two assists off the bench.

Lyles added nine points and six rebounds while Catherine Mills (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) also had nine points.

The Green Terror, who had its game scheduled for Saturday against Goucher postponed, returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Jan. 4. Game time is 7 p.m.
