Box Score Hornets tally lone second half goal to edge McDaniel, 2-1
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Jess Natkin tallied both
goals to lead Shenandoah to a 2-1 victory over McDaniel in
non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton
Wright) notched her second goal of the season for the
Green Terror (2-8-1), who was fewer than 24 hours removed from a
scoreless deadlock with Goucher on Tuesday.
Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters
Mill) made another six saves on Wednesday. Kat
Terza made four stops for the Hornets (6-6-1), who
finished with a slim 11-10 advantage in shots that included a 7-4
margin in the decisive second half.
Natkin laced a ball from the right wing about 20 yards out with
a stiff wind to her back that found the upper-left corner of the
net for the game-winner at the 56:20 mark.
On a centering pass from the left endline by Kirsten
Olsen in the 20th minute, Natkin and a McDaniel defender
battled for the ball in front of the cage before a half-bicycle
kick put the ball in the top of the net for a 1-0 Shenandoah
advantage.
Fewer than three minutes after Liz Beall (Westminster,
Md./Winters Mill) just missed off the top-right corner of
the cage, Scheler knocked home the equalizer at the 29:44 mark off
a long pass from Emily Harman (Columbia,
Md./Hammond) that Becky Newman (Lexington,
Mass./Lexington) touched right.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Franklin &
Marshall on Saturday. Game time is 11 a.m.
